He raced under coach Peter Eurton on the West Coast at Santa Anita and Del Mar before transferring to Kevin Attard when he arrived north of the border. If he can negotiate Plate’s normal traffic, he should be late.

Dance Some Mo, the gelding son of Uncle Mo, also spent the spring in the United States, smashing his young daughter on the lawn of Churchill Downs. Trained by American conditioner Graham Motion, he is one of two horses owned by Sam-Son Farms, winner of five Plates.

He passed well to Tapeta de Woodbine in the aforementioned allowance race and will likely be placed ahead by jockey Patrick Husbands. Husbands won two plaques, including the last Canadian Triple Crown winner Wando in 2003.

The lead horses performed well, according to Ed DeRosa of Brisnet. “Since 2000, horses 10th or worse on the first call of the race are a 1 for 97 combined, and no horse worse than fourth in the streak has won,” DeRosa tweeted.

A favorite that shouldn’t be ruled out is Safe driving (5-1). With Eclipse Award-winning jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. flying out of Saratoga to ride Bodemeister’s son, his stock immediately jumped.

Like his sire, the bay colt trained by Phillip Serpe should be on Ortiz’s engine, which can make a difference regardless of which horse he’s on. The only question mark around his potential is that this will be his first race outside the US and on a synthetic surface.
