Jody Watley ROCKS! The legendary singer, songwriter, producer and businesswoman is one of the architects of 21st century pop.

EPIX‘Original docu-series’women who rock‘, from John Varvatos and Derik Murray’s Network Entertainment, pays tribute to Jody Watley and other female music pioneers who stormed the stage, wielded their instruments, amplified their voices and sang the soundtrack to our lives. . In their own words, generations of iconic female artists discuss truth, challenge, artistic expression, hard-earned success and, most importantly, the ideas and stories behind their timeless music.

The four-part musical docuseries “Women Who Rock” premieres Sunday, July 10 at 9 p.m. EDT/PDT and features original interviews with Jody Watley, Nancy Wilson, Shania Twain, Chaka Khan, Pat Benatar, Mavis Staples, Sheryl Crow , Sheila E., Macy Gray, Rickie Lee Jones, Norah Jones, Aimee Mann, Tori Amos, Kate Pierson, Tina Weymouth, St. Vincent and Nona Hendryx.

In addition to Varvatos and Murray, Jessica Hopper, Jesse James Miller, Paul Gertz, Kent Wingerak and Rachel Brill serve as executive producers. Hopper directs the docuseries, with additional episodes airing July 17, 24, and 31.

Jody Watley is a Grammy-winning pioneer in music, video, fashion and style, celebrated around the world.

In a statement released by Ms Watley, she said: “I am honored to be recognized as a pioneer in music, alongside such incredible women.”

Watley continues to be an entertainment staple. His signature voice and memorable favorites are the soundtrack to our lives and can be heard all over the world.

From his revolutionary marriage between rap and R&B (1989 “Friends”, a collaboration with hip-hop legends Eric B. & Rakim who was the first to cross R&B/Hip-Hop, Pop and Dance in the Billboard Top 10 “Friends , ” to his visionary marriage of high fashion, street fashion and music in the 80s (long before it became the norm), to his fusion of jazz and underground club culture with from keen pop instincts, and to the ease with which she crossed and still crosses the genre, Ms. Watley forged the pattern that is now everyone’s playbook.

As a solo artist, the pop and R&B singer has 6 Billboard Hot 100 Top Ten Singles, 13 Number 1 Dance Singles, 2 R&B Number 1’s, 15 Top 40 Singles, Gold and Platinum albums, 2007 Billboard Dance Lifetime Achievement, 2017 recipient Black Music Honors Crossover Music Icon Award and nominations for the American Music Awards, MTV Awards, NAACP Awards and Soul Train Awards. In 2018, Billboard Magazine included Jody Watley in the Top 60 of the 100 greatest female artists of all time and the Top 25 of the greatest female dance artists of all time. His timeless series of hit songs such as “Looking for a New Love”, “Real Love”, “Still A Thrill”, “Some Kind of Love”, “Everything” and “Friends ft. Eric B & Rakim”, are favorite classics still airing today. Ms. Watley was also named the first Ambassador in 2021 to the National Museum of African American Music in Nashville and in 2022 she received her first honorary doctorate in business.
