Drake: Rapper and singer “withdraws his nominations” for the 2022 Grammy Awards | Ents & Arts News

Rapper and singer Drake withdrew both of his 2022 Grammy nominations, according to US media.

The Canadian star, a quadruple precedent Grammy winner, had been shortlisted for Best Rap Album for her sixth studio album Certified Lover Boy, and Best Rap Performance for the single Way 2 Sexy with Future and Young Thug.

However, these have now been removed from the awards website, which is maintained by the Recording Academy. Duck gave no reason for the move.

Who’s up for what at the 2022 Grammys?

Reuters news agency cites sources close to the musician, while The Associated Press cites sources “familiar with the decision” in reports indicating that the rapper and his management have asked the Recording Academy to withdraw his nominations.

The 35-year-old star has been nominated for 47 Grammys over the years, winning her debut for Best Rap Album in 2013, for her second album Take Care. In 2017, he won two awards – Best Rap Song and Best Rap / Sung Performance for his single Hotline Bling – and followed with another gong for Best Rap Song of 2019, for God’s Plan.

However, he has criticized the awards in previous years and has shown his displeasure at not being nominated outside of the rap category.

In 2019, he declined to perform at the ceremony and emphasized the importance of awards in his acceptance speech, saying, “If there are people who have regular jobs who go out in the rain, under the snow, spend their hard earned money to buy tickets to come to your shows, you don’t need them here. I promised you, you’ve already won.

The speech was cut halfway.

In 2020, Drake slammed the awards for failing to name fellow Canadian star The Weeknd – who himself called the Grammys “corrupt” – despite its huge success that year.
