Cast announced for Hayes Theater Co’s 2022 production of HEAD OVER HEELS

The casting was announced today for the Australian premiere of the hilarious and groundbreaking Broadway hit musical CRAZY IN LOVE. On view at Hayes Theater Co from February 18, 2022, CRAZY IN LOVE is a bold new musical set to the music of iconic 1980s girl rock group, The Go-Go’s.

Playing Basilius and Gynecia, the king and queen of Arcadia, are Aaron Tsindos (Merrily We Roll Along, Muriel’s Wedding) and Lena cruz (Priscilla Queen of the Desert, playing Beatie Bow), while their daughters Pamela and Philoclea will be played by Laura Bruant (Gypsy, Rent) and Jenni Small (School of Rock, High Fidelity). Mopsa, the royal maid of Princess Pamela, will be Lauren Cheok (Charlie and the chocolate factory), while his father Dametas, royal viceroy of Basilius, is Evan lever (Everything is fine We ride happily). Doron Chester (Aladdin, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical) will play the role of the poor shepherd Musidorus, and Daniel Gabriel (The moth effect, two weeks with the queen) presents as Pythio, the mystical Oracle of Delphi. The set is composed of Andy Seymour, William Tukia-Edwards and Maddi Xeureb.

The creative team boasts director Ellen simpson (Muriel’s wedding, Little Shop of Horrors), choreographer Cameron Mitchell (Catch me if you can, Cry-Baby), music director Zara Stanton (Fangirls, HMS Pinafore), set designer Isabelle Hudson (American Psycho, Young Frankenstein), costume designer Brendan de la Hay(Funny Girl, Man of La Mancha) and lighting designer Benjamin brockman (Razorhurst, Angels in America).

In a cheeky (but completely brand-true) attempt to flout the Oracle’s dire warnings, King Basilius of Arcadia sets out on a journey of escape and avoidance with his entire family. The next two boisterous, ruff-filled hours see everything familiar to this royal clan rock to their crown as they are thrown, kidneys first, into a new era of inclusion and transformation. Through a plot containing usurped royalty, unlikely lovers and fluid disguises, CRAZY IN LOVE preaches unconditional love and acceptance for yourself and everyone you know, regardless of gender or gender identity, and uses some of the greatest pop rock hits of the late 20th century including We Got the Beat, Our Lips Are Sealed and Belinda Carlisle’s Heaven is a Placer on Earth.
