American singer-rapper responds to Aries Spears’ shameful comments

At the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards, Lizzo won the Video for Good award. During her time on stage, she spoke to young voters in the audience and addressed comedian Aries Spears’ shameful remarks, which have already been published. The singer-songwriter beat fellow finalists Stromae, Latto, Rina Sawayama and Kendrick Lamar to win the music video award for his song “About Damn Time.”

“I don’t know what ‘music videos for good’ means,” Lizzo said after receiving the award. “But I know what your vote means, and that’s a lot. Your vote means everything to me. “Now to the bitches who’ve had something to say about me in the press…” Lizzo then counted, to the cheers of the audience, conceivable consideration for Spears’ comments. “I won’t say anything,” Lizzo said holding up her award, mentioning that she gets calls to “clap the hands” at haters. “Why don’t you clap?” ‘Cause bitch, I win.

With the release of his third studio album, Because I love you (2019), which peaked in the top five of the US Billboard 200, Lizzo has gained mainstream popularity. The singles “Juice” and “Tempo” are from the album. Two years after its initial release, Lizzo’s 2017 single “Truth Hurts,” which became a viral hit, was featured on the deluxe version of the album.

It became the longest solo song by a female rapper and reached No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Around this time, her 2016 single “Good as Hell” also saw chart success, reaching the top ten of both. the UK Singles Chart and the Billboard Hot 100.

The 62nd Annual Grammy Awards saw Lizzo receive the most nominations of any artist that year with eight, including one for each of the ‘Big Four’ categories. Lizzo went on to win Best Urban Contemporary Album, Best Pop Solo Performance for “Truth Hurts”, and Best Traditional R&B Performance for the song “Jerome”.

Lizzo’s track “Rumors”, which featured Cardi B, was released in 2021 and made its Billboard Hot 100 his top five debut. The lead track from his upcoming fourth studio album Special (2022), “About Damn Time”, debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100.

Apart from performing music and rapping, Lizzo has also worked as an actor. She provided the voice for the animated film UglyDolls (2019) and had a guest appearance in the comedy-drama Hustlers (2019). She is also the host of the reality show Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls on Amazon Prime Video, for which she was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Competition Program.

In recognition of her rapid rise and musical accomplishments, Lizzo was named “Entertainer of the Year” by Time in 2019. She has won two Soul Train Music Awards, a Billboard Music Award and a BET Award, in addition to her three Grammy Awards.
