Nigerian singer Davido, real name David Adeleke, and his fiancée, Chioma Rowland, were not home when the drowning happened on Monday October 31.
Davido’s house staff cooperated with investigators to figure out how Ifeanyi’s drowning happened.
Police spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin said BBC Newsa staff member at the home contacted police at 10 p.m. local time on Monday.
“We are reviewing CCTV cameras for further information on the circumstances of his death,” Hundeyin told the BBC. “His body was deposited in the morgue. We are in contact with his parents. In fact, they were with us last night.
Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu mourned the loss of Twitter quoting “death leaves a sorrow that no words can heal”.
“I express my deepest condolences to David and Chioma, for the passing of their son, wrote Sanwo-Olu. “Ifeanyi was loved and his smile brought smiles to the world. my thoughts and prayers are with you.
The news comes three weeks after celebrating Ifeanyi’s third birthday.
“I pray with all my heart that God grant you perfect health and pure happiness for as long as humanly possible,” Davido wrote alongside a snapshot of Ifeanyi. “You will grow taller than me, happy birthday, son.”
Davido also has two daughters; Aurora Imade, 7, and Hailey Veronica, 5, both from previous relationships.
